The Boerne Education Foundation—a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation formed in 1997 to support Boerne schools—raises money and accepts gifts to be distributed to schools within the Boerne Independent School District. The goal of the foundation is to provide funds beyond the normal operating budget to improve student achievement and to recognize and encourage teaching excellence.

The main fundraiser each year is the Rock On Gala held in the spring. All funds go to academics. The money raised is used to augment classroom material, libraries, technology and for staff enrichment.

Proceeds from the gala and other gifts are distributed to schools in the form of teacher grants. The grants are given for innovative educational ideas. (Click here to view distribution)

The grants are distributed by two means. A portion of the money raised is distributed evenly among the seven Boerne schools on a per capita basis. A smaller portion of the funds, called Teacher Incentive Grants, is distributed to teachers who submit the most innovative proposals. A volunteer board of directors runs the foundation. The directors are residents of the Boerne-Fair Oaks area and are from a variety of backgrounds, including many parents with students in Boerne Schools. The foundation also has an advisory board made up of community leaders from Boerne and the surrounding area.
